In March 2026, OeEB successfully completed its first transaction in Guatemala. A term facility agreement of USD 20 million was signed with Banco Promerica Guatemala to support micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), merchants and professionals, as well as sustainable projects.

MSMEs, merchants and professionals are a central part of Guatemala's economy but often have limited access to finance. Therefore, 70% of the term facility is dedicated to strengthening these local businesses and enabling investments. The remaining 30% is allocated to climate and environmental projects, thereby supporting sustainable investment in Guatemala.
Banco Promerica Guatemala was founded in 1993 and is part of Grupo Promerica, one of the largest banking groups in Central America. The bank operates an extensive branch and agent network and is committed to international sustainability initiatives such as the UN Global Compact and CentraRSE. A comprehensive Environmental & Social Management System (ESMS) forms the foundation of its sustainability approach.
In addition, OeEB has connected Banco Promerica with Austrian partners, including a coffee farm with plans for a photovoltaic power plant and the Austrian School in Guatemala, to explore further cooperation opportunities.
