"From new jobs to energy supply to access to finance: The implementation of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) also requires the ambitious involvement of the private sector," say Andrea Hagmann and Michael Wancata, members of OeEB's executive board.

90 percent of jobs in developing countries are created by private companies. Accordingly, the private sector will play an important role in the implementation of the SDGs.

"OeEB primarily finances renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in developing countries, as targeted in SDG 7," explain Hagmann and Wancata. Supporting the development of small and medium-sized companies and improving the access to reliable and sustainable infrastructure as well as access to financial services (SDG 8 and 9) are further objectives essential to OeEB.
