OeEB was founded in 2008 and has since become a key player in the Austrian development cooperation. In its first 10 years, OeEB contributed to economic development worldwide by providing loans and equity participations for more than 130 projects. Almost 150 additional projects were financed via OeEB's Business Advisory Services to enhance the developmental impact of OeEB’s investments, e.g. through studies or trainings.

"From our first project in 2008, a loan to the European Fund for Southeast Europe which provides funding to micro and small enterprises, to our most recent project, a loan for the construction of Serbia's largest wind farm – OeEB is a success story," emphasize Sabine Gaber and Michael Wancata, members of OeEB's executive board. In 2018, OeEB's total portfolio reached EUR 1.08 billion. Around 300,000 people are employed in all projects financed by OeEB.

"OeEB is also Austria's largest provider of climate financing. More than 40 percent of our portfolio is dedicated to renewable energy projects. In total, we have provided EUR 590 million for climate projects – e.g. we co-financed the construction of Honduras' largest solar park," explain Gaber and Wancata.

OeEB was founded in 2008 as the development bank of the Republic of Austria and works with a mandate from and in close cooperation with the federal ministry of Finance. OeEB is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oesterreichische Kontrollbank (OeKB).
