On January 15, 2015 Erik Solheim, Chair of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), presented the results of the DAC Peer Review Austria. He emphasised the importance of the private sector in the field of development cooperation. This also confirms OeEB’s path, which places a focus on the development of the private sector in developing countries. This is as important as classical aid, he said.
OECD DAC regularly reviews the development cooperation in its member countries in the form of peer reviews. The review team visited Vienna in June 2014 and had about 30 meetings, among others also with OeEB. Moreover, OeEB hosted the presentation of the report, in cooperation with OECD DAC, BMEIA (Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs) and ÖFSE (Austrian Foundation for Development Research).
"The praise for Austria for the integration of the private sector is also valid for OeEB", emphasise Andrea Hagmann and Michael Wancata, members of OeEB’s executive board. "The development of the economy through private investments plays an important part in improving the living conditions in developing countries."
The report is available on OECD’s website.
