With Advisory Programmes funds granted to the National Cleaner Production Center in Tbilisi, OeEB contributes to production efficiency and environmental protection in Georgia.
Although Georgia experienced a major economic upturn in recent years, there are still many factors restricting its industrial development: outdated machinery and inefficient technologies reduce productivity and harm the environment; the high consumption of resources reduces the competitiveness of local companies. Moreover there is little awareness and public support for Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP).
The National Cleaner Production Center (NCPC), set up by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) and UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), improves companies’ energy- and resource efficiency with the following activities:
- Technical Assistance and energy audits
- Training and education of national experts
- Provision and marketing of information; raising awareness
- Creation of demonstration effects and know-how transfer regarding energy-efficient technologies; promotion of investments
The aim is a more efficient use of natural resources, the reduction of waste and emissions as well as the minimisation of risks to man and environment.
