OeEB has entered into a participation of up to EUR 2.5 million in a credit line issued by the German Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) in order to modernise the district heating system in Pristina. OeEB is thus contributing to both an environmentally friendly and cost efficient heating system. Together with „Energieconsulting Heidelberg“ the Austrian consultancy „iC consulenten“ will act as consultant during the implementation process.
The total investment volume of the project amounts to EUR 26.9 million and will be used to improve and modernise Pristina’s district heating system: An existing but inefficient heating plant will be closed down and the excess heat from a state-owned brown coal power station will be used instead.
Heating in a more environmentally friendly and cheaper way
„Thanks to the improvements in the infrastructure, the emissions of CO2 will be reduced considerably”, Andrea Hagmann, member of the OeEB executive board, is convinced. “At the same time, district heating contributes to an improved security of supply. The population of Pristina will benefit from the cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative for heating.”
