On 1 July 2008, the Development Bank of Austria, Oesterreichische Entwicklungsbank – OeEB, signed the UN Global Compact and thus committed itself to support universal social as well as environmental principles in its activities. Together with Oesterrichische Kontrollbank AG, Austria's main provider of financial and information services to the export industry and the capital market, and owner of OeEB, it is one of 19 Austrian enterprises to have made this pledge to implement global and sustainable methods in its daily work.
The UN Global Compact was founded in 2000 and is the world’s leading voluntary corporate citizenship initiative whose target it is to support social commitment of enterprises. Its members integrate the principles of the initiative into their strategies and business processes. In addition to that, it is aimed to strengthen the cooperation between interest groups and to promote new partnerships that support the goals of the United Nations.
The Principles of the UN Global Compact are based on a world-wide consensus, based on
- The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
- The Declaration of the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work
- The Rio-Declaration on Environment and Development
- The UN Convention against Corruption
The first progress report of OeEB as regards the participation in the initiative of the UN Global Compact will be published in sustainability report of Oesterreichische Kontrollbank Group.
